Colors for baby blankets

I'm trying to decide what are the favorite color for baby blankets. Anymore I find pink or blue for clothing in the stores for babies but not the general colors. What color do you think would make a nice baby/toddler blanket? I would like to hear your comments. I love to crochet baby blankets and my daughter has asked me to make some blankets for the emergency room at the hospital. I want to know what other colors to make the blankets out of. Please submit comments.

Thanks.

  1. Studies have shown that young children of either sex respond well to bright colors. I like the primarys together (red, blue and yellow). You could also do complimentaries(red/green, yellow/purple, orange/blue) or Secondarys like purple, orange, green. My hubby's g-ma just grabs a random color and adds it to the next random color and it always turns out well too. I think there is too much emphasis on what is a "baby" color now.

  2. I really like to get my color schemes from Pottery Barn kids magazines, or Stampin' up magazines. They have great color ideas!
But if i were to get a baby blanket from the hospital, i wouldnt think twice about it being blue, pink, yellow, white, or any of the other typical colors! GOOD LUCK!

  3. I like mixing brown and pinks or brown and blue, but I pretty much like any color for a baby blanket. I have been told not to do yellow for kids in the hospital as it could make them "look" yellowish or sick, JMHO. Good luck, that is such a great idea.

  4. I love to see baby blankets in jewel tones or primary colors. Many people still prefer the traditional pastels. For hospital donations I would use a variety of colors in order to allow parents to have a choice. I have made many baby items in very dramatic colors at the request of parents or grandparents. Just have fun with the coor choices!

  5. Pastels are great colors, I agree with Uniquely Yours Crafters. But like the gals said, it's great to gather some ideas from baby stores and maybe ask what their best selling colors.

  6. I like the minty green for baby blankets. My dd's "blankie" (she's 17 LOL) is minty green.

  8. I've always been partial to the jewel tones (fuschia, mauve, violet, teal) so that's what I make my baby blankets.

But others are more drawn to the pastels..

  10. Hello,

I know this is an old post, but, would still like to suggest, maybe for future reference.

Well I recently discovered that multi-colors really motivate me much more than one color projects, although I'll still do those too.

I finished a Sonoma blanket in colors lime green, white, hot pink, and pastel yellow. I NEVER once got bored on that blanket. I also attribute it to the intermediate level. Which is just basically different style of stitches in one motif, although it was easily memorized by the second motif.

I'm currently doing a baby basketweave blanket in colors bright yellow, baby blue, and lime green. It's about 2/3 done, and when I spread it out, it makes me happy and encourages me more to finish it(this is usually the part too, that I start getting excited(LOL!).

So,I guess my suggestion would be is to try multi-color combos and see how you like them.

    Regards,
